Elizabeth Vernon, RN, who serves in Brookwood Baptist Medical Center Palliative & Supportive Care unit, has been inducted into the Tenet Heroes 2018 Hall of Fame, Tenet's highest honor for colleagues.

The Tenet Heroes program celebrates individuals who make an impact in their communities that goes above and beyond their daily job responsibilities.

Vernon was recognized for her dedication as a palliative care nurse to bring comfort and dignity to terminal patients. In addition to her work at Brookwood Baptist, Vernon has served on multiple medical mission trips.

Vernon has helped build a clinic in Haiti and procured pharmaceutical supplies and medical equipment. She recruited and expanded the volunteer reach to include paramedics, firefighters, nurses and other medical staff to treat up to 300 patients per day.

Her desire to serve others is not limited by the borders of Haiti. At home, Vernon is a certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for Jefferson and Shelby Counties. She also volunteers at a local church and teaches science to home schooled children.
