The medical staff of Brookwood Baptist Medical Center named Jitendra Sharma, MD the 2019 Physician of the Year. This honor recognizes physicians who exemplify the core values of Brookwood Baptist Medical Center - integrity, service, quality, transparency and innovation.

Sharma is recognized for his collaborative approach to patient care. As one of only five interventional neurologists in Alabama, he has been the pivotal player in establishing Brookwood's stroke program, which was recently one of just three hospitals in Alabama to be recognized by American Heart Association /American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines® Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus Quality Achievement Award.

Sharma helped implement RAPID advanced image screening for stroke patients as well as a one-call transfer line so patients can seamlessly transfer from other Brookwood Baptist Health hospitals to Brookwood Baptist Medical Center as a Primary Stroke Center. He participates in multiple stroke conferences and has done a wide variety of outreach events to physicians, EMS, fire and paramedics.
