Brookwood Baptist Medical Center has named Wahib Mena, MD, Neonatologist, as Physician of the Month for the difference he makes in the lives of his patients.

Mena has been a pioneer in the area of identifying and treating symptomatic tongue-tie, a condition that can severely impact the ability of a baby to be breastfed. In recent years, the American Academy of Pediatrics began acknowledging that tongue-tie can pose significant issues for the nursing couplet and thereby put mothers and infants at risk for early weaning.

Mena implemented an in-house service at the Women's Center of Brookwood Baptist that enables infants to be evaluated for TT and performs interventional treatment by way of frenectomies to help champion the efforts of mothers to breastfeed their babies.
