The University of Alabama at Birmingham has named Andrew J. Butler, MPT, MBA, PhD, dean of the UAB School of Health Professions following a national search.

Butler joins UAB from Georgia State University, where he is a professor of physical therapy and associate dean for Research.

Butler received his PhD in motor control from the University of Iowa. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Iowa, at Texas Women's University in Houston and at Heinrich-Heine University in Germany. Prior to joining Georgia State in 2012, he was a faculty member in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine.
