Adrienne Lahti, MD, the F. Cleveland Kinney Endowed Chair in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology, has been selected as the director of the UAB Comprehensive Neuroscience Center (CNC). Joining Lahti as co-director is Lucas Pozzo-Miller, PhD, professor in the Department of Neurobiology. They succeed Lori McMahon, PhD, and Peter King, MD, who had served as co-directors since 2012.

The UAB CNC is a network of more than 450 UAB neuroscience research faculty, clinicians, staff, and students that serves as the focal point for UAB neuroscience research. Membership is composed of neuroscience professionals from 23 departments and seven schools. The mission of the CNC is to promote and support interdisciplinary neuroscience research, clinical care and education at UAB.

Despite significant advances over the last 15 years in understanding many basic neurological processes, development of more effective treatments for neurological and psychiatric diseases has been identified as the largest and fastest-growing unmet medical need in this country. The institutions that can most rapidly establish the necessary neuroscience initiatives to facilitate the translation of research discoveries into effective therapies will be positioned to lead neurological and psychiatric disease research into the future.
