The Food Allergy Treatment Center is offering continuing education through the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. This continuing education virtual webinar is designed to provide physicians and other health care staff with a practical and timely overview of the important developments in food allergy and treatment options. The course will cover a review of food allergy diagnosis, management, including anaphylaxis management, and available treatment options. Adequate time after each session will permit time for questions and discussion. This educational activity is designed for those who evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with food allergies.
INTRODUCTION TO FOOD ALLERGY & ANAPHYLAXIS
6:00 PM – Presented by Dr. Sunena Argo, MD
This session will review IgE-mediated food allergies and their epidemiology and clinical features as well as provide updates on diagnosis and initial management. Acute treatment of food allergy induced anaphylaxis will also be explored.
EARLY INTRODUCTION – LEAP STUDY
6:30 PM – Presented by Dr. Sunena Argo, MD
This session will review the Leap Study and its recommendations for early introduction of peanut in infants. The presenter will discuss best practices for evaluation of these infants as well as safe food introduction.
SUBLINGUAL IMMUNOTHERAPY FOR PEANUT
7:00 PM – Presented by Erin Cuzzort, CRNP
This session will familiarize participants with a treatment option for infants and toddlers in whom it is not safe to introduce peanut or who have had a reaction to peanut after introduction.
TREATMENT OPTIONS – ORAL IMMUNOTHERAPY (OIT)
7:30 PM – Presented by Dr. Sunena Argo, MD
This session will focus on treatment options for patients with IgE-mediated food allergies, including the recently FDA approved peanut treatment Palforzia.
