Arrives like a superhero
Varithena® (polidocanol injectable foam) is a powerful medicine that is used to treat varicose veins caused by problems with the great saphenous vein (which happens to be the longest vein in your body). Varithena® is the only FDA-approved foam treatment for varicose veins in your legs’ GSV system – and Alabama Vein Center has it!
Rescues like a superhero
This treatment has been shown to improve symptoms that patients consider most important: Heaviness, Achiness, Swelling, Throbbing, Itching, and a general improvement in overall vein appearance. A small amount of Varithena® is administered by a doctor through a catheter or by direct injection into the malfunctioning vein. The microfoam fills and treats the desired section of the vein. Afterwards, the evil villain – er, diseased vein – collapses and the microfoam is deactivated. After the malfunctioning vein is “defeated,” blood flow shifts to healthier, “friendlier,” veins in the surrounding area.
Convenient like a . . . well, you get the point
Varithena® requires no surgery, requires no incisions, requires no general anesthesia. Talk about minimally invasive! Moreover, this treatment usually takes less than an hour to administer. Patients may resume some activities the same day, but be prepared to snuggle up with a book from your favorite author or catch up with a few episodes of your favorite show. We do recommend that patients avoid heavy exercise for about one week. In other words, be ready to relax.
There are potential side effects with Varithena®, such as leg pain or discomfort, injection site bruising, and in some cases more serious considerations. You can get more information by visiting our website or contacting us.
Nice thing is, to summon this superhero you don’t have to rely upon his/her super-human hearing or shine some beacon into the night sky that displays the shape of a flying rodent. Just give us a call! We’d be more than happy to answer your questions.
